So you have the need for a Great looking even better working Hannibal Tent, So you order it. It arrives in it's Cardboard box and your ready to install it. Here are a few tips and pics on how we do it.
So you took the tent out of the box. It's closed like it will be when it's up on the rack. Place the tent up on the rack and center it where you want it to sit when closed. There will be time to move it around forward or back and side to side when the tent is open before drilling the final install holes.
So your on top of the roof, you unzipped the cover with the heavy duty zippers, rolled it all back, Now lift up one side of the tent and pull out the 2-piece aluminum ladder. In this case it's a Bullbar ladder system which will attach to the front BullBar in the front of the vehicle. You may have ordered a floor ladder in which case there will be a much longer section to reach the floor when using the ladder from the side or the rear of the vehicle. The ladder installs in the 2 brackets underneath the flooring of the tent. pictured here is the ladder put together. There should be 2 bolts and nylon nuts included with the ladder.
So since the ladder is in 2 pieces, It would be nice to be able to keep them together. So the lower section has 2 holes but the top section which is actually attached to the tent flooring does not. As shown here, when you slide the pieces together There are no holes to line up.
So Pull out the bottom section of the ladder set it beside the top with the outer lip touching, this will line up the holes, Drill them out and you can now connect the two pieces and use the cotter pins to hold the ladder together.
Here is the ladder with both sections together and the provided pins in place.
So the ladder is in place. you can now lift one side of the tent and have someone waiting in front of the vehicle to catch the ladder as it swings out and place the bottom of the ladder on the bull bar and secure it with a strap which is attached to the foot of the ladder. Stay on the roof to make sire the ladder does not fold and come down on the hood and windshield. Once the tent is open as shown and the front ladder is secured on the bullbar. as long as the tent itself is open flat, you can now get down from the roof and lok at the ladder to make sure it's in the center of the bullbar and the tent portion that's over the roofrack or rails is correctly placed.
Here is a hint on placing the tent correctly on the rack when it comes to how far forward it should be. Slide the tent forward to where the bottom flap of the cover falls a bit over the front edge of the rack. this will make sure that when you open the cover, the flap falls over the edge and does not get stuck between the two halves when fully opened. Shown are the right and left side of the tent. Now it's time to get in the rack side of the tent and start the drill!
OK, before we get to drilling the tent in, I forgot to include the picture of the Lower portion of the ladder where you strap it to the bullbar, notice how the lower portion of the ladder has several adjustable heights, for even more adjustments, you can drill your own holes between the holes already there for an even greater range of adjustment.
So when you sit inside the tent, you'll see a few more things. The green pouch with the eight 4mm thick Fly sheet poles, the Fly Sheet cover and the outer roof bar that keeps the flysheet 100mm above the roof for added insulation., Notice the nice thick 70mm high density foam mattress. This mattress has a zipped cover which can be removed and laundered if desired. The mattress, Roof bar, and pouch with flysheet poles all store inside the tent while closed and travelling.
OK, Here is the hardware you will need to install the tent on your Hannibal Rack. To do this, you'll need a drill, 1/4" drill bit. Phillips Screwdriver, and 7/16" open ended wrench or socket. if you decide to use larger diameter bolts these sizes may differ. a 2" length is a perfect length for the bolts. We drill one bolt in each corner of the tent's 10mm marine grade wooden floor deck, then two other bolts in the center of each side of the tent. Once done the mattress is layed back down and your tent is ready to sleep in. Check out the great inner compartments. The white bungy cords between the sides of the tent hold the sides in while folding the tent, these can be undone while the tent is up to free up space inside. next we'll install the flysheet and hold it up with the included poles.
OK, So there it is, Built, set up, ready to have the time of your life camping in the great outdoors. Shown are the poles, the 4 short ones are used for the side awnings and the long ones for the front and back sections of the flysheet. Not shown is that the roof outer bar to raise the flysheet is installed, believe me you'll figure it out when you look at the top of the tent and have the bar in your hand. I'll have a few nice pictures of the entire truck in other sections of the site. Enjoy!
